John Wellington

John Wellington was an Anglican missionary bishop in the 20th century.
He was born into an ecclesiastical family 〔He was the son of the ''Reverend G. Wellington'' “Who was Who” 1897–1990 London, A & C Black 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 on 28 December 1889 and educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Wimborne and Salisbury Theological College. Ordained in 1913 he was curate at St Martin’s, Salisbury before heading to China as a missionary. He was in Shantung until 1935 when he returned to England as Vicar of Holy Trinity, Bedford. From 1940〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1947-48 Oxford, OUP,1948〕 to 1950 he was Bishop of Shantung〔Interned by Japanese in China;, released, 1945 Who’s Who (Ibid)〕 Next he was Vicar of St Germans ; and from 1953 Archdeacon of Bodmin. He retired in 1960 and died on 11 September 1976
